UB AIAA participates in three major projects during the year.  You can be a part of as many as you wish.

Design Build Fly

Project Page:

Co-Captain: Tyler Szczesniak <tjszczes@buffalo.edu>
Co-Captain: Ben Rothstein <brothste@buffalo.edu>

Every year AIAA, Cessna, and Raytheon Missile Systems sponsor this competition.  It involves designing, building, and flying a remote controlled fixed-wing aircraft.  The missions and constraints on the aircraft are different every year.  At the end of the year, the most active members are invited to attend the competition in either Wichita, KS or Tucson, AZ.

UB AIAA also has an RC aircraft simulator (RealFlight) and RC airplanes.  Both are specifically used for teaching new students to fly for themselves.

Microgravity Experiment

Project Page:  Microgravity

Captain: Ifechukwu Ononye <ifechukw@buffalo.edu>

This project beings in early September.  NASA's Reduced Gravity Student Flight Opportunities Program (Microgravity) involves designing an experiment we would like to test in a simulated zero-gravity environment (microgravity).  Once we design our experiment, we write a proposal to NASA explaining what we want to do.  After NASA signs off on our experiment, we build it.  The year finishes off with us taking our experiment down to Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX and running our experiment on a modified aircraft that flies parabolas (Vomit Comet), inducing microgravity.

Bot Wars Competition

Project Page:  Bot Wars

Every year, the Student Association hosts Engineering Week where each engineering club at UB hosts an event.  The week culminates with Bot Wars, a tournament style competition for remote-controlled Battle Bots.  Each club builds their own Battle Bot for combat in the Bot Wars arena.

UB AIAA is lead by

President Tyler Szczesniak <tjszczes@buffalo.edu>

Vice President Meg Cheney <meganche@buffalo.edu>

Secretary  Corinne Hutchinson corinne.hutchinson@ubaiaa,org

Treasurer Caleb Saathoff <caleb.saathoff@ubaiaa.org>
